Downspout Repair in Portland, OR — We Fix Downspouts
A downspout has one job: take everything the gutter collects and put it on the ground, away from the house. When a downspout is clogged, crushed, rusted, or pulled loose, that water ends up in the wrong places — over the fascia, down the siding, and pooled against the foundation. We fix downspouts across the Portland metro. FixRoof.fast is a website of Restoration LLC, licensed Oregon general contractor CCB #261557.
Downspout Problems We Fix
Clogs are the everyday problem. Fir needles wash off the roof, mat together at the first elbow, and stop the line. From the ground the gutter looks fine; in a storm it fills like a bathtub and pours over the edge. We open the line, clear the elbows and outlets, and flush the downspout until water runs free from top to bottom.
Physical damage is the other half of the work: downspouts crushed by ladders and yard equipment, sections rusted through at the bottom elbow, joints that have separated so water sprays out mid-wall, and straps that have let go so the pipe leans away from the house. Each of those dumps roof water exactly where you do not want it — against siding, window frames, and the foundation.
How We Fix Downspouts
Downspout repairs are mechanical work: clear the line, reseat the joints, reseal them, or replace the damaged section. We start by running water through the system to see what it actually does: where it backs up, where it spills, and where it exits. Clogged sections are opened and cleared. Damaged sections are replaced and matched to the existing run, joints are reseated and sealed, and straps are replaced so the downspout sits tight to the wall. At the bottom, we set the outlet so water discharges clear of the foundation, with an extension where the grade is flat.
Downspout work pairs naturally with the gutter itself — a repaired downspout under a sagging gutter still leaves water standing in the wrong place. If the gutter run needs work too, our gutter cleaning and repair page covers cleaning, resealing, and rehanging.

Call (503) ROOFERSWhy Drainage Deserves Attention
A roof moves a large amount of water in a Portland storm. Where that water lands matters.
Fascia & Siding
A backed-up downspout overflows at the eave, soaking fascia boards and running down siding on every storm. Repeated soaking is what turns paint failure into wood rot.
Foundation & Crawl Space
Water discharged at the base of the wall saturates the soil against the foundation. Over a wet season, that moisture can find its way into crawl spaces and basements.
The Roof Edge
Standing water at the eave works under the first course of shingles and the drip edge. Keeping the exit clear is quiet protection for the edge of the roof itself — see roof repair.
Downspout Repair Questions
Straight answers from a licensed Oregon contractor.
What are the signs a downspout needs repair?
Water spilling out at the elbows during rain, sections pulling away from the wall, rust streaks, crushed or split pipe, and puddles forming right at the foundation. A downspout that rattles or gurgles in heavy rain is often partially clogged.
Can a downspout be repaired, or does it need to be replaced?
Clogs, loose straps, and separated joints are repairs. Sections that are crushed, rusted through, or split open get replaced and matched to the existing run. We check the whole line, because fixing one section does little if the elbow below it is packed with debris.
Can a clogged downspout damage my roof?
It can. A downspout is the only exit for its gutter run. When it clogs, the gutter fills and overflows behind the fascia and at the eave — the same path that rots fascia boards and starts leaks blamed on the roof. Clearing and repairing the downspout protects the edge of the roof.
Where should downspouts drain?
Away from the house. The outlet should carry water clear of the foundation, with an extension or splash block where the ground is flat. Water that dumps straight down at the base of the wall soaks the soil against the foundation and can find its way into a crawl space or basement.
